What a sweet Pays de Lamastre in Ardèche... you still can hear the train whistle! The train de l'Ardèche, usually called Mastrou, arrive at full speed in Lamastre several time a week from spring to autumn. Having followed the river, Doux,
in the deep and beautiful gorges, the Doux valley is yours and offers wonderful landscapes in terraces, where thousands of fruit trees do not compete with the symbolic forest of sweet chestnuts
Lamastre, in the middle of the valley, joins 10 nice villages : Désaignes, Empurany, Gilhoc-sur-Ormèze, Labatie-d'Andaure, Lafarre, Le Crestet, Nozières, Saint-Barthélemy-Grozon, Saint-Basile and Saint-Prix.
And valleys drive Lamastre easily to the four cardinal points : Annonay, Tournon-sur-Rhône, Valence, Privas, Aubenas, Le-Puy-en-Velay are just a couple turns farther! These turns are so famous in our local geography : no awesome views without going up and, donkeys and muleteers knew it. It's easier to climb in turns! And to convince you, if it's not done yet, if a straight road is faster to go to some places, a curved road is way more beautiful !
